Hello, friends. I know you normally find me discussing divorce, separation, faith, the Church, and single motherhood on this blog but every now and then I have to share something (mostly for those other single moms out there) that has improved our sometimes hectic life. Today I’d like to tell you about my first year using Young Living essential oils.
What’s the big deal with essential oils anyway?
I am a natural skeptic. If you are familiar with the Enneagram personality types, I am a 5 with an extremely strong 6 wing. This means that I don’t trust easily and I search out truth through research. (If you want to learn more about the Enneagram, which is whole other post but will also change your life, you can visit my favorite Enneagram coach here.) So I have been aware of the essential oil crowd for a while but saw it as just another health craze that would soon die out — like the cabbage soup diet or Tae Bo.
However, I started to feel sick to my stomach when I was visiting a friend out of town in the summer of 2016. When I told her that I needed to go lay down, she handed me a bottle of peppermint oil and told me to take some deep whiffs of the scent. I was too sick to protest and decided to humor her. But it worked! I was amazed at how quickly my body seemed to respond. My head stopped pounding and my stomach relaxed. I made a mental note to do some more research on this crazy oil thing.
I’m not a fan of New Years resolutions but I do like to make a few goals at the beginning of every year. In January of 2017 I decided that I should add essential oil research to my list of goals for the year — and that research needed to include actual testing in my home. I was privileged to participate in a book launch for Edie Wadsworth in the fall of 2016. As I got to know Edie I found out that she was a doctor and a huge proponent for essential oils. This was just what I needed! I watched several very helpful videos in which Edie explained why essential oils work from a scientific viewpoint and I was intrigued.
One of the things that scared me about starting out with essential oils was that there is SO MUCH information out there and I didn’t know how to sift through and tell the difference between the good, the bad, and the ugly. However, Dr. Edie was a source that I believed I could trust and she offered so many incredible resources that I wouldn’t need to go to anyone else for help. I loved the fact that I could sign up as a wholesaler in Young Living, enjoy the discounts, and never worry about someone pressuring me to order or sell to others. Young Living’s products were organically grown, included a seed to seal promise, and the company offered really great rewards for ordering.
I was still in my research phase when two of my children came down with the flu. It was the worst possible week for something like this happen and I was beside myself with the fear that I would be next. I didn’t know what I would do if I couldn’t get to work that week. So I did what I often do in a crisis — I called my sister. She let me borrow and diffuser and some oils to help with immune support and I managed to escape the yuck. That week I took the plunge and ordered a starter kit through Edie’s blog and I think it is the best decision I ever made for my family’s physical and mental well being. After a year of living with essential oils, my family uses them all day every day.
My starter kit came with a diffuser and all this oily goodness:
I am aware that most of America has already taken at least a test drive with essential oils but I wanted to share for the few skeptics who may be holding out. I can’t say enough good things about Young Living and what these products have done for my family and I don’t think it should surprise us that our good God created good things to bolster our immune system and promote our health before He even breathed life into Adam.
If you would like to know more about my journey with essential oils this year, please send me an email. I’d love to chat with you about it. If you know you want to give this a try before cold and flu season starts, you can purchase a starter kit through Young Living and become a whole sale member here. As I mentioned before, this is my first time publicly sharing my experience with essential oils but I will receive a small commission if you choose to purchase a kit through my link and my member number will already be filled in if you click through this link.
What are the benefits of being a wholesale member of Young Living?
As a wholesale member you can purchase Young Living products at a discount and you’ll have access to other exclusive offers. What I love about this is that since I am not purchasing the oils from another person, I don’t feel pressured to place an order when I don’t need something. You do NOT have to sell the oils to others as a wholesale member and you don’t have to purchase a certain amount each month to keep your discount. To stay an active member you only have to purchase 50 PV (approximately $50) of product per year. I had a hard time believing that there were really no strings attached here but it’s true! I have been a member for almost a year and no one has emailed me to push me to order something I didn’t need or tried to convince me to share the products with others.
What are the benefits of joining Young Living through my link?
If you choose to purchase a premium starter kit through my link, I would love to help you learn more about essential oils. Dr. Edie has an incredibly helpful Facebook group full of live videos and graphics that have been invaluable to me as I learned this year and I will be glad to get you added to our group even while you are waiting for your kit to arrive.
Trust me, I know how hard it can be to invest in your health but whether you choose to jump into oils today or just take a walk around the block or an afternoon nap, I hope you do something for you today. It’s hard to give your family what they need when your own tank is empty.
